The perils of too much information

What happens when we want to start doing something new? What’s the most common piece of advice you hear?

“Beta, find out everything about the market situation. Do your homework. Unless you understand every tiny detail, you will never be able to succeed.”

Really? Okay, let’s apply this little hypothesis to an age-old fable about a boy named David. For those who don’t know, David was small, but he believed. He believed he could take on a giant no man had the courage to face in battle.

Now imagine if David had decided to “do his homework.” He would have learned about every man the giant had slain, the size of his biceps, and how it was once said he ripped the heart out of a bloodthirsty lion.

What do you suppose would have happened then? If David had armed himself with every intimidating fact? I think it would have ruined our bedtime stories, don’t you?

David knew one thing. The giant was human. His size may have been larger than anything David had seen, but mortal he was all the same.

All David had to do was use that belief to his advantage.
